Project key points

  • Construction of an eight lane, 25 metre swimming pool to tolerances of -0/+10mm

  • Deep fill strip and pad foundations, retaining walls and ground bearing slabs

  • Design and installation of a sheet piled cofferdam to prevent the ingress of water into the excavation from the high water table

  • Installation of 1200mm diameter ventilation ducts to the perimeter of the pool

  • High levels of hydrocarbon contamination across the site

  • Work was carried out around a high voltage cable running through the site

Swimming Pool

  • The pool was built to BS8007: Code of Practice for design of concrete structures for retaining aqueous liquids. The structure used waterproof membrane tanking methods to achieve water tightness and all construction joints, wall and slab penetrations were sealed using hydrophilic strip. The process ensured that the pool was completely watertight and it passed a seven-day water tightness test, having no leaks. The walls of the swimming pool were constructed to the -0/+10mm tolerances through strict supervision and quality controls by our engineers and site team.
